The American Civil Liberties Union is accusing the Milwaukee Police Department of violating the rights of people of color by engaging in unconstitutional stops.
Reports by three experts say that between 2010 and 2017, Milwaukee police allegedly made more than 350,000 unconstitutional traffic and pedestrian stops.
The ACLU says that those stops were made largely in black and Latino areas, but that even in predominately white neighborhoods, people of color were still more likely to be targeted.

Last February, the ACLU sued the City of Milwaukee over the police department’s so-called stop-and-frisk policy. Back then, the department said it does not have a stop-and-frisk policy but that stops in high crime areas have been proven to reduce the number of non-fatal shootings, robberies and motor vehicle thefts.
