We’ve moved! If you tried to tune into our WUWM@Nite/Ex Fabula radio program on Wednesday night, you would have found us missing. Never fear. You can still get your weekly Ex Fabula fix at an even better time! Ex Fabula has moved to the weekend. Tune to Lake Effect Weekend on Saturday afternoons (and again on Sunday) at 3 p.m. to hear some of your favorite Milwaukee storytellers.
Along with the longer days and warmer weather, spring brings many exciting opportunities for Ex Fabula. We are honored to be collaborating with From Her to Her Artist Collective for My Sister’s Story: A Public Art & Community Dialogue Program. The partnership is intended to spark stronger, more proactive female-to-female alliances in order to increase momentum toward achieving gender equality worldwide. Along with My Sister’s Story, Ex Fabula is honored to be working with the Milwaukee County Department of Aging and a group of intergenerational storytellers inspired by the documentary, Vel Phillips: Dream Big Dreams.
There’s been a lot of talk about workers lately. Whether it’s right-to-work, the minimum wage or unemployment rates, every one of us has a story. So this week, we’re paying homage to the workers out there with two humorous tales of life on the lines.
Our first story features an Ex Fabula favorite, Meghan Koven. Many years ago, as a recent culinary school graduate, Meghan took a catering job at a suburban country club. Unfamiliar with the nuisances of country club life and even less familiar with golf (and golf brands), Meghan was puzzled by the abundance of breast euphemisms branding the golfers and golf bags alike. What kind of event was this? She wondered. Tune in to hear just how far the simple misunderstanding went before someone let Meghan in on the joke.
Our second story takes us back to the '60s and a lesson of what NOT to do the day before a job interview. A young Rose Delany was under the assumption that when she went to submit an application to Allen Bradley, an application was all she would be submitting. Little did she know the application process involved an in-depth set of both mental and physical aptitude tests. It was at that moment that Rose began to regret her Timothy Leary-like activities of the night before.
It’s hard to believe but we’re only one Story Slam away from the end of our sixth Ex Fabula season. That means, you have one month left to fulfill that New Year resolution to “try something new” and put your name in the Ex Fabula hat. We’ll be hitting the stage on April 16th at Hot Water Wherehouse so mark your calendar now.
