Ex Fabula: Father's Day

Art Montes
Jordan Reichardt shares a story.

Fathers. They call us silly nicknames, they teach us how to ride a bike, how to check our oil (even better, how to change our oil). They listen to our first heartache and advise us on our next heartthrob. They take us fishing, lose their temper, use colorful language and throw dance parties in the kitchen. This week, we’re celebrating fathers and Father’s Day with the humorous tales of two Dads.

Jordan Reichardt takes us back to Christmas morning 1994 when, sleepy-eyed, she stumbles down the stairs to find Santa Claus standing in her living room. As time turned this moment into a hazy, dream-like memory, the one thing Jordan remembers clearly is the tear in Santa’s red suit. Was it a dream or was Santa really in her living room?

Fathers take on many roles. Some are fantastical (like dressing up as Santa), while others are more practical. One of our Season 6 All Stars, Alecia Alstaetter, shared a few of the life lessons her father has taught her with a few explicatives and the universal fix-all—hit it.

While we are on summer hiatus from our monthly Story Slams, Ex Fabula continues to work on community collaborations, including partnering with Broadscope Disability Services for the "Easy Access" StorySlam for the upcoming 25th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
