Ex Fabula: We Got This

Andre Ellis

Ex Fabula shares Andre Ellis’ story, his vision of healing and of community.

As a non-profit whose mission it is to strengthen the bonds of community through the art of storytelling, ExFabulacouldn’t wait to celebrate with the Franklin Heights community for the fourth annual Heal the Hood Block Party.

Cloudy skies and spring mists couldn’t keep these neighbors from the food, music and solidarity that filled these often troubled streets as they congregated around the We Got Thiscommunity garden and listened to Andre Ellis and many others share visions of change for this multi-faceted community.

This week, Ex Fabula shares Andre Ellis’ story, his vision of healing and of community.

On the block where he lives, Ellis is the change that needs to be. Andre Ellis is founder and managing director of Andre Lee Ellis & Company, a local theater group. He's also someone who believes in grass-roots action.

Soon after moving to Franklin Heights in 2011, a young man was shot dead outside his house. Not one to sit idle, Ellis became a one-man neighborhood improvement committee. With the understanding that “we must often go through tragedy to get to victory,” Ellis also recognized that with hard work comes self-worth and began working with neighborhood youth on a community garden project.

We’re excited to share Ellis’ story, along with all the stories coming from the Heal the Hood initiative and look forward to many more stories of growth, renewal and hope.
