Thursday evening at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center in Whitefish Bay, an exhibit featuring the work of more than 20 artists will open.
The Milwaukee Jewish Artists’ Laboratory created the Living Waters exhibition. It’s the result of the group’s yearlong communal exploration on the theme of water and Jewish identity.
"Everyone interprets it according to their own plug in to being Jewish and also to their own exploration of what water is and how it could work in their medium," says founder Jody Hirsch.
It’s the fourth year the organization has mounted a group show. The artists work in media as diverse as painting, photography, metals and playwriting.
And Hirsch was that playwright who started it all 4 years ago. He, along with Marc Tasman from the Digital Arts and Culture Program at UWM, and photographer and UWM graduate student Helene Fischman describe the collaboration and what they discovered about their own journey of identity:
