Garbage In, Garbage Out: Musician/Producer Butch Vig comes to Milwaukee

Butch Vig

Butch Vig, a Viroqua native, drummer for Garbage and award winning producer for such bands as Nirvana, Green Day and The Foo Fighters, is in town this weekend.

That's because the 2014 Yellowphone Music Conference kicks off Thursday night in Milwaukee. The annual gathering offers a showcase for unsigned, mainly Midwestern bands in front of music industry executives.

It's the first time Vig has participated in a music conference of any kind, and he says he's looking forward to it,

"It's a chance for me to be able to share some of my experience with a new generation of musicians and songwriters," Vig says. "I'm really lucky that I had over 30 years of this long career, and I just feel like it's a good thing to do. To be able to go back to where I grew up and share that experience with people."

Vig will give the keynote at Yellowphone on Friday morning along with Jeff Castelaz, the President of Elektra Records.
