Growing Power & Freshwater School Work Together To Fit Aquaculture Into Urban Environments

Jon Strelecki

One of the benefits of UW-Milwaukee having the only school of freshwater sciences in the United States is the great expertise that exists in the school.

This edition of UWM Today focuses on one of the signature programs within the school - the developing field of aquaculture and aquaponics and doing so in an urban environment.

Joining us on this week's program is Fred Binkowski, a senior scientist at UWM's School of Freshwater Sciences and an expert in aquaculture. Alongside Fred is Will Allen, the CEO of Growing Power Inc., a farm and community food center in Milwaukee. A few years ago, Time Magazine named Will one of the "100 World's Most Influential" people because of his groundbreaking work in urban agriculture.

Tom Luljak hosted UWM Today on WUWM for more than two decades and is the inaugural host of Curious Campus.
