Milwaukee police shot and killed a man late Monday afternoon. The incident took place near 10th and Burnham on the near south side. Police confirmed the death around 5 p.m.

Police Chief Alfonso Morales says two officers were following up on a 48-year-old suspect who fled from police earlier in the day. The man was wanted on warrants for domestic violence and violating probation.
The officers pulled the man over. Morales says that's when the man got out of the vehicle with a gun. The chief says two officers fired, and the man died on the scene.
Morales did not indicate whether the suspect fired his weapon. Other details haven't yet been released.
Fatal shootings by police in Milwaukee and other cities sometimes have led to outrage and protests. That includes when an officer killed Dontre Hamilton in a downtown Milwaukee park in April of 2014. Hamilton was mentally ill.
And it was exactly two years ago Monday that riots broke out in Milwaukee's Sherman Park neighborhood after an officer killed Sylville Smith.
Smith and another man had been pulled over in a traffic stop. Smith was armed. He fled on foot, when officers chased him and shot him.
