Tom Barrett easily fended off a challenge from Ald. Bob Donovan, a frequent critic of the mayor, on Tuesday.
Barrett won a fourth four-year term. He thanked supporters during his victory party at a south side restaurant on Tuesday night:
"I love this city, I love this job, and I think the people of the city of Milwaukee want a mayor who is optimistic about its future, who recognizes that there are challenges. And I do recognize them. There's too much poverty and areas where there are public safety concerns, but I remain optimistic. I really do believe that the best days of Milwaukee are in the future," Barrett said.
Barrett said he plans to focus improving the city's infrastructure, and growing jobs, especially in the Century City area on the north side.
Ald. Donovan will remain on the Common Council. He won reelection to that post on Tuesday.
