Preview of Milwaukee Film Fest's Food Series

Screen Capture from the "Foodies" Documentary
This year's Film Feast features 8 movies about or surronding food and the people who enjoy it.

For the next two weeks, the annual Milwaukee Film Festivalwill present more than 300 movies. Some, like Jaws, are one offs. Others, like Cream City Cinema, are united by a common theme.

One of the themes this year is food. Movies about food, wine, cooking and dining will make up this year’s Film Feast. Growing from a few films about food to its own section in the festival, contributor Kyle Cherek believes films surrounding food truly go beyond typical cooking shows and feed the viewer with something greater.

"The chef's ethos...the dynamics of how food impacts our lives, our culture, our globe, our communities...we all want to know more," Cherek says.

Here's a peak at a handful of the food films:

1. Coast-to-Coast Cuisine (includes Off the Menu: Asian America and The Sturgeon Queens)

2. Foodies "High dining brings up a lot of really great ethical questions about how we eat, how we value what we eat, who's important in that whole structure, and it's also beautifully shot. It's a great way to tour the world and some of the finest restaurants."

5. Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story - "Forty percent of the food produced in America is wasted...it's disturbing. They do everything from the industrial side to following a couple in Vancouver who decide to only eat wasted food."

6. Love and Lemons

7. Wisconsin's Own includes:

Old Fashioned: The Story of the Wisconsin Supper Club - "This film does a beautiful job of explaining how we got there and then also is romantic about it too because they're nothing but fun."
