Singer-songwriter Eliza Gilkyson has been recording music since Richard Nixon was President. Over those 47 years, she has accumulated scores of songs written when she saw the world facing challenges.
"Calm Before the Storm" was written more than a decade ago, but Gilkyson was inspired to dust it off in the wake of the November Presidential election. "At the time [in 2005], I was thinking that, in times of struggle, community is so important," she says. "There are things you can't get from the Internet, as much as we try to. You really need the comfort of your friends and people who you trust.
"It's an older song, but it seems so relevant for today," she says.
Eliza Gilkyson, Mary Gauthier, and Gretchen Peters will share the stage Wednesday night at Shank Hall as they kickoff a mini-tour called "Three Women and the Truth."
