The expectations for the Milwaukee Bucks are high this year. The team has generally lived up to them, getting off to a fast start in their new arena, the Fiserv Forum. Longtime fans know that things don’t always work out, but newer fans might not be as familiar with some of the up-and-down half-century history of the basketball team that calls Milwaukee home.

Sportswriter Eric Nehm, who covers the Bucks for The Athletic is the author of 100 Things Bucks Fans Should Know and Do Before They Die. The book looks at the history of the team and all the essential stories true Bucks fans should know.

For Nehm, that includes going back to the creation of the team — a story that doesn't get shared as often as other sports teams'.

"It's just an insane story, and it's a perfectly Wisconsin story," he says.

One of the original owners, Marvin Fishman, played an important role in getting the team started back in 1968. His story, and how the Packers' Vince Lombardi played a role, is just one of the "100 things to know" that Nehm shares in the book.

Eric Nehm will talk about 100 Things Bucks Fans Should Know and Do Before They Die Thursday at 7 p.m. at Boswell Book Company in Milwaukee.
