State Panel Cuts Funding For Zoo Interchange Work

Freeway work in the Milwaukee area could be scaled back after the Joint Finance Committee cut funding for reconstruction on part of the Zoo Interchange.

The non partisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau earlier reported a drop in gas tax revenue will lead to a $54 million shortfall in the state's roads budget. Thursday's action by the JFC  related to the Zoo Interchange would save more than $37 million. Wisconsin Department of Transportation officials say they're optimistic work on the Zoo project will still be completed on schedule, despite the budget cuts.
