Striving to be a 'Positive Force': Nora Jane Struthers & The Party Line

There’s a certain sense of comfort that shows through in the music of Nora Jane Struthers and her band, The Party Line.  It might be thanks to the critical success of her latest album, Wake, which Struthers produced herself.

But it might also be the result of a whole series of fortunate life events that have carried her to places in which she feels at home and at ease.

"Great art can definitely come from great pain, and it's not that there isn't pain in my life, but overwhelmingly I've been fortunate beyond fortunate. Making the career shift from being a teacher to trying to be a musician and the growing pains that came along with that transition...a great source of joy for me is where I'm going with that," Struthers says.

She was in Milwaukee last week for a show at Shank Hall, and stopped by the Lake Effect studio with her partner in music and in life, Joe Overton:
