Supervisor Spends Night In Park to Call Attention to Homelessness

Bob Bach

Milwaukee County Supervisor Michael Mayo calls his second homeless awareness event a success and promises a return next year. For the second year in a row, Mayo spent the night in Dineen Park on Milwaukee's northwest side. The vigil was designed to raise awareness of veterans' homelessness and the need for additional resources for the victims of domestic violence.

"There are 3,700 people --children, women and men, in Milwaukee County who are homeless. We need to help them. Milwaukee County is the safety net for everyone and we're supposed to give them a good quality of life," Mayo said.

The 16 hour event also featured a winter clothing drive. It ended about 9am on Friday.
