Trinity Irish Dance Celebrates, While Pushing The Boundaries Of Tradition

Despite her young age, Chelsea Hoy has become an influential name in the field of Irish dance. Hoy is the associate artistic director and choreographer for the Milwaukee and Chicago-based, nationally touring Trinity Irish Dance Company.  The company was founded nearly 30 years ago and terms itself the “birthplace of progressive Irish dance.”

"It’s exciting to see where we can push the boundaries of Irish dance, while still celebrating the integrity of this very artistic art form which was borne out of a struggle in England," says Hoy.

Trinity will make its first Milwaukee-area performance in more than 10 years this weekend, with Friday and Saturdayperformancesat the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts in Brookfield. Ahead of the shows, Chelsea Hoy joined Lake Effect’s Bonnie North to talk about following in the footsteps of a giant in the Irish dance world:
