While thousands of Wisconsin high school graduates are admitted to colleges and universities across the state every year, not all of the students are prepared for the college level classes they are required to take.
One area in particular that has been a problem is mathematics. Although students take math classes in high school, a significant number of them have to begin their college career in remedial math courses once they step on to a college campus. And even then, many of the students still struggle.
At UW-Milwaukee, one professor has helped develop a new way of teaching math that is having a remarkable impact on the success rate of students in those remedial classes. Host Tom Luljak talks with professor Kyle Swanson, who is the chair of the UWM Mathematics department.
