The entrepreneurial world can be hard to break into, especially when you’re a 20-something, still finishing up college. But that’s exactly what Jenna Terek set out to do when she founded As You Wish Co. The online retail store sells bracelets and necklaces, with a charitable business model.
"Twenty-five percent of every purchase gets donated to a cause of the buyer's choice at checkout," she explains. "We are working with eight nonprofits right now in all the categories, from animal welfare, health, education, environment and poverty."
Terek is a senior at UW-Milwaukee, whose passion for business led her to creating the online store this fall, and credits her coursework as the foundation of her company. "I think that As You Wish Co. is definitely a real-life application of everything that I've learned," she says.
While the college senior plans to move after graduation, she says that Milwaukee will always be a part of As You Wish Co., since many of the nonprofits it donates to are based in Milwaukee. "I think that it's cool that we get to support those local Milwaukee charities, and so I know that no matter where I move we'll always have that local impact."
