Gov. Scott Walker says the Mexican Consulate office in Chicago, that serves Wisconsin residents, has too long of a wait.
His solution: the Mexican government should open a consulate office in Wisconsin.
Walker says “the Hispanic community in Wisconsin has grown rapidly in recent years,” making up 6.2 percent of the state’s population in 2012.
He says the Chicago office, which also serves residents of Illinois and Indiana, has a backlog, causing Mexican nationals to wait two months or more for documents.
The governor sent letters to President Enrique Peña Nieto and Ambassador Eduardo Medina-Mora, asking them to consider opening a Mexican Consulate office in Wisconsin.
