Linda Benjamin Clinical Social Worker		Linda Benjamin is a Clinical Social Worker in Private Practice in Milwaukee. She has been a news broadcaster and has hosted a live call-in self-help show on WEVD-New York. She was also former Supervisor of Program Development for WNET/THIRTEEN in New York. Robert Bundy Traveler's Roundtable		Robert Bundy is our Traveler's Roundtable contributor, introducing us to remarkable places via essays - both his and from other contributors. Bundy is the Web content producer at Kohler Company and edits TCD Traveler for Third Coast Digest. He previously was editor of Milwaukee Home & Fine Living, part of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and head writer and editor of Lemon Magazine. Nancy Camden Freelance Producer		New Wisconsin resident, Nancy Camden interviews the Wisconsinites she meets while roaming the Milwaukee area with audio recording equipment. She draws upon her thirty-year career as a visual artist to create audio 'pictures' through editing slice-of-life pieces for Lake Effect. Using that same curiosity and interest in people, she also has a business of audio recording personal histories for people to pass down to their families. Bruce Campbell Surgeon, Blogger		Bruce Campbell is a head and neck cancer surgeon at Froedtert Hospital and Professor of Otolaryngology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He learns something new every day from his patients and his students. He writes about his experiences in his blog, "Reflections in a Head Mirror." Kurt Chandler Writer, Editor		Kurt Chandler is a senior editor at Milwaukee Magazine and the author of two books of nonfiction, including Shaving Lessons: A Memoir of Father and Son. His work has been published in a number of newspapers and magazines, from The New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle and Minneapolis Star Tribune, to Advertising Age, The Advocate and Salon.com. Chandler is a writing instructor, motorcycle enthusiast and guitar player in a bluegrass band. He lives in Wauwatosa with his wife and their teenage daughter. Abdur Chowdhury Global Economist, Marquette Chair		Dr. Abdur Chowdhury is the Chair of the Economics Department at Marquette University and serves on the academic advisory council for the Federal Reserve Bank in Chicago. Prior positions include 5 years as the Chief Economist of the United Nations Economic Commission in Europe. Faithe Colas Co-host, Black Nouveau; Salvation Army Community Relations Director		Faithe Colas spent 20 years with the Milwaukee Courier newspaper, working her way up from sales representative to editor, and retiring as the publisher in 2007. She then left the newspaper industry and went to work at The Salvation Army of Greater Milwaukee as community relations director. Colas is also the co-host of Black Nouveau, a weekly news magazine featuring stories of interest to Milwaukee's African American community. She co-published Bronzeville, A Milwaukee Lifestyle: A Historical Overview, and co-produced MPTV’s Punching In, a documentary recognizing those who built Milwaukee’s Black middle class through the manufacturing labor force. Jean Creighton Astronomy Contributor		Dr. Jean Creighton was born in Toronto and grew up in Greece, where her mother claims she showed a great interest in how stars form from the age of five. To her, Physics was the gateway to Astronomy, and so she studied physics at the University of Athens. She returned to Canada to earn a masters degree from Saint Mary's University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and a PhD in Astrophysics from the University of Waterloo. Since 1999, she's taught Astronomy at UW-Milwaukee, taking over as director of UWM's Manfred Olson Planetarium in 2007. Tim Cuprisin Media critic		Tim Cuprisin was the media columnist for onmilwaukee.com. He was a journalist for 30 years, starting in 1979 as a police reporter at the old City News Bureau of Chicago, a legendary wire service that's the reputed source of the journalistic maxim "If your mother says she loves you, check it out." He was the regular TV writer at the Milwaukee Journal and then the Journal Sentinel for 15 years. Will Durst Political Satirist		Will Durst is sworn enemy to all tyrants, foreign and domestic. He has managed to patch together a half way decent quilt of a comedy career utilizing syndicated columns, radio and television commentaries, acting, stand up comedy, voice-overs, margarine smuggling and a book, The All American Sport of Bipartisan Bashing. He’s a regular on CNN & Fox News, has performed for 3 elected Presidents and is still in search of the perfect cheeseburger. His wife is much funnier than he. Kate Fellowes Writer, Essayist		Kate Fellowes is a Milwaukee-area writer and a graduate of Alverno College. She’s the author of four romantic suspense novels as well as plenty of short stories and essays. Her work has appeared in everything from Romantic Homes to Crimestalker Casebook and she’s won contests at Harlequin, The Writer, and the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Gianofer Fields Material Culturalist		Gianofer Fields is a freelance producer and reporter for National Public Radio, the British Broadcasting Corporation, and WORT Community Radio in Madison, WI. She is a Material Culture junkie and curator of It’s A Material World, a virtual café exploring our relationship to the objects we keep near. She says, “Once you seriously consider the objects you use to fill your emotional and functional needs, you will never see those things the same way ever again. From delightfully intriguing to dangerously obsessive, objects affect our daily lives. They creep into our subconscious. Ray Fister Wine Blogger, Podcast Engineer		Ray Fister is Lake Effect's regular wine contributor and the co-creator and voice of the wine blog and podcast "Life Between the Vines." He is also the owner and engineer of 5th Floor Recording Company. He has 30 years experience in professional recording, including 21 years working in the Milwaukee Market. Miles Goodwin Timeless investment books		Miles Goodwin is a real estate attorney in Milwaukee. He writes about timeless investment advice on his blog, Wall Street Smarts. John Gurda Historian		John Gurda is a Milwaukee-born writer and historian who's studied his hometown since 1972. He is author of seventeen books, including histories of Milwaukee-area neighborhoods, churches and industries. Gurda's The Making of Milwaukee is the first feature-length history of the community published since 1948. Milwaukee Public Television produced a five-hour documentary series based on the book. Gurda is also a lecturer, tour guide, and history columnist for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He holds a bachelor's degree in English from Boston College and a master's in cultural geography from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Eric Hansen Urban Adventurer		Eric Hansen is a Milwaukee writer and outdoorsman who frequently explores the upper Great Lakes and the American West. He writes for Backpacker Magazine and other publications, and has written two guidebooks: Hiking Wisconsin and Hiking Michigan's Upper Peninsula - A Guide to the Greatest Hiking Adventures in the U.P. The books reflect a memorable 1,700 miles of research on foot in search of the region's most notable pathways. Hansen's adventures include 24 treks to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, ascension of most of the high peaks of Glacier National Park, and a telemark-style ski descent from Colorado's highest summit, Mount Elbert. Dave Haseman Technology Contributor		Professor Dave Haseman is the Director of the Lubar School of Businesss Center for Technology Innovation.His research interests are in the area of group decision making, emerging technologies, eBusiness, Web Services and the use of the Internet for business applications. Lucien Jung Feature contributor		Lake Effect contributor Lucien Jung is a graduate of Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications masters program in Television-Radio-Film. His research in the IP-based distribution of multi-media has been presented at the Broadcast Education Association’s annual conference as well as the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture. Paul Kosidowski Art Critic, Writer		Paul Kosidowski writes the Culture Club column for MilwaukeeMagazine.com, and covers the local arts and culture scene for a number of publications. He teaches journalism at UW-Milwaukee and is the past literary director of the Milwaukee Repertory Theater. He lives with his wife and son in Shorewood. Ellen Kozak Copyright, Media Lawyer		Ellen M. Kozak is a Milwaukee copyright, publishing and media lawyer and the author of several pseudonymous novels, hundreds of articles in publications that include Travel+Leisure, USA Today, and the Wall Street Journal, and three nonfiction books: the award winning From Pen to Print: The Secrets of Getting Published Successfully, three editions of Every Writer’s Guide to Copyright and Publishing Law, and her newest, The Everything U.S. Constitution Book. Dave Kozlowski Farmer		David Kozlowski heads the Milwaukee Community Supported Agriculture Initiative, representing CSA farmers in southeast Wisconsin. He is a board member of Slow Food Wisconsin Southeast and on the planning and developing committee for the Farm Fresh Atlas, promoting local food sources in southeast Wisconsin. Kozlowski, with his wife, Sandra Raduenz, owns Pinehold Gardens in Oak Creek, a 21-acre farm providing fruits and vegetables to CSA members, farm market customers and local restaurant-goers. Dave Luhrssen Film Critic		David Luhrssen is arts & entertainment editor of the Shepherd Express, co-founder of the Milwaukee International Film Festival and co-author of A Time of Paradox: America Since 1890. He is the winner of the Pace Setter Award for contributions to Milwaukee's film community from the Milwaukee Independent Film Society. David Luhrssen has taught at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design and Milwaukee Area Technical College. Ed Makowski Poet, artist		Lake Effect's contemporary writing contributor Ed Makowski is a poet, artist, and writer living in Milwaukee, WI. As Eddie Kilowatt he released two books, Manifest Density and Carrying a Knife in to the Gunfight. Ed lives in Riverwest and prefers two wheels to four. Bruce Murphy Journalist		Milwaukee Magazine editor Bruce Murphy has won more than 30 national and state journalism awards. He is a former reporter for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and prior to that edited Milwaukeeworld.com, where he broke the pension scandal story that resulted in the county executive and seven county supervisors losing their jobs. Anne Reed Animals / Animal Welfare		Anne Reed is executive director of the Wisconsin Humane Society, the state’s largest animal welfare organization. The Wisconsin Humane Society provides a comprehensive adoption program, veterinary care, educational programs, information resources, and one of the largest wildlife rehabilitation hospitals in the United States, in fulfillment of its mission to build a community where people value animals and treat them with respect and kindness. Rob Ricigliano Professor, World Affairs		Robert Ricigliano is director of the Institute of World Affairs and the Peace Studies Program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he teaches International Mediation and Negotiation through the Department of Communication. Ricigliano was a founding board member of the Alliance for Peacebuilding, a consortium of leading conflict resolution NGOs and academic centers. He has worked with political parties in the new Iraqi Parliament and on the peace process in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He's been involved in peace building interventions in Russia, Georgia, Colombia and South Africa. He holds a law degree from Harvard Law School and a bachelor's degree from Hamilton College. Denice Ryan Martin Writer		Denice Ryan Martin writes and gardens on 3 ½ acres in Genesee. She holds a BA in English from Loyola University of Chicago and a Master's in Social Work from California State University/Sacramento. Her stories and essays have appeared in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Chicago Tribune, Christian Science Monitor, Sacramento News & Review, and numerous magazines. Prior to moving to Wisconsin in 2003, she worked as a K-12 school social worker in Northern California and Northern Illinois. Alvaro Saar Rios Playwright, Performer		Alvaro Saar Rios is a playwright & performer. He holds an MFA in Writing for the Stage & Screen from Northwestern University and is the co-founder of the national touring performance troupe--The Royal Mexican Players. Mr. Rios is the author of various plays, such as The Crazy Mexican Show and his one-man show One Hot Texican Summer(or the summer I found out I was Mexican). Mr. Rios has received commissions to write plays for First Stage Children's Theater, The Zoological Society of Milwaukee, UW-M's The Roberto Hernandez Center and the United Community Center. Lucy Saunders Beer Writer		Lucy Saunders is Lake Effect's regular beer contributor for our "Good Fermentations" segment. She's also the author of five cookbooks, including Grilling with Beer and The Best of American Beer and Food. Saunders is also the editor of beercook.com. She conducts beer tastings and appreciation classes at culinary schools, retailers and non-profit groups, including the American Cheese Society, the Newberry Library and the Smithsonian. Mark Savage Automotive Writer		Mark Savage is a certified “car nut,” writing the auto review column – Savage on Wheels – for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and previously the Milwaukee Sentinel, for more than 20 years. He also is editor of American Snowmobiler magazine, published locally by Kalmbach Publishing Co. Mark Siegrist Commentator		Commentator Mark Siegrist is a freelance television producer. His most recent documentary is Milwaukee’s Muslim Faithful, airing on Milwaukee Public Television. Judy Steininger Writer, Scientist		Judy Steininger is a Professor Emerita at the Milwaukee School of Engineering, where she teaches chemistry and literature classes, and leads the Great Books Dinner and Discussion Series. She won a 2006 Milwaukee Press Club award for Best Magazine Feature Story. Steininger has served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Kenya, and describes herself as a never-say-quit golfer. George Stone Natural Sciences Instructor, Milwaukee Area Technical College		George Stone lives in Milwaukee, where he teaches at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC). Now in his fourteenth year on the faculty, George teaches Earth Science, General Geology, Weather Fundamentals, Climate Change Fundamentals and Energy in Nature, Technology and Society. He has also taught Basic Chemistry and Environmental Science at MATC. George earned a B.S. in geology from the University of Miami and a Ph.D. in geology from the University of Colorado in Boulder. Cari Taylor-Carlson Author, Essayist		Cari Taylor-Carlson travels the world with a backpack and a tent. She taught environmental education at Schlitz Audubon and the Boerner Botanical Gardens, founded the Milwaukee Walking and Eating Society, and wrote Milwaukee Walks, The Food Lover's Guide To Milwaukee and Best Cheap Eats. She continues to write "The Dish" for M Magazine and to guide hiking trips with her business Venture West. Barry Wightman Essayist		Barry Wightman is a writer--he's a novelist, blogger, business writer, book reviewer - a multi-purpose scribe. He’s going to finish his novel Pepperland some day soon—it’s about rock ‘n roll, the dawn of the Internet and radical love. He is also a professional voiceover talent—which means that he gets to talk big for happy radio, TV and corporate clients. The Vermont College of Fine Arts recently awarded him an MFA—he thinks that’s pretty cool. And he leads an aging rock 'n roll band, the Outta State Plates, which means that he believes that, with a guitar in his hand, just about anything is possible.
