How We Handle Health Care
As Congress debates health care reform, we take a step back to look at some of the bigger policy questions our leaders are attempting to answer through legislation. We talk with local and national experts on these issues to figure out what's really going on with how we handle health today.
Project Milwaukee: Black & White
Milwaukee has long held the reputation, deservedly or not, of being one of the most segregated cities in the United States. Race relations in our community continue to impact education, economic development and our neighborhoods.
In this Project Milwaukee series, WUWM News and Lake Effect journalists examined the history and evolution of black-white relations in Milwaukee. WUWM's in-depth reports and community forum explore how race relations have improved, and where there is still room for growth. You can find all of the Project Milwaukee reports and interviews here.
Tanked: Running on Empty
Throughout this year, Lake Effect will bring you an occasional series of reports we’re calling “Tanked: Running on Empty.” Through interviews, feature stories, sound portraits, and commentaries, we’ll paint a picture of how people in our community continue to press forward, even in the toughest times many of us have ever faced.
If you have an idea for a segment on how people are making a go of it, even in the face of tough economic times, email it to us at lakeeffect@uwm.edu or send it to us here.
Down to Business
Each month, Lake Effect collaborates with The Business Journal of Milwaukee in the "Down to Business" series. Reporters from The Business Journal and newsmakers from around town stop by WUWM's Studio A to talk about what's going on in the business world. You can read about this month's topic and guests and find past segments here.
Milwaukee Books
Lake Effect talks with local librarians and independent booksellers to learn which books are capturing their imaginations, and what Milwaukeeans are reading. Click here to see an archive of Lake Effect book recommendations.
