Streamlining a New River Park

Ken Leinbach is executive director of the Urban Ecology Center. Ann Brummitt is a volunteer for the Milwaukee River Work Group. They talk with Jane Hampden about promoting a new public park along the Milwaukee River corridor from the North Avenue dam to Silver Spring. Friends of Milwaukee's Rivers, the River Revitalization Foundation and the Urban Ecology Center are working together on the project.


Aldo Leopold Legacy Center

Hundreds of people gathered on Earth Day last month to celebrate the opening of the Aldo Leopold Legacy Center northwest of Baraboo, just a half mile from "The Shack" Leopold wrote about in A Sand County Almanac. The new, green building includes a visitor's center and classrooms. Amidst the hubbub of opening day last month, Nina Leopold Bradley shared her father's land ethic and conservationist principles with Lake Effect's Susan Bence.

Jeffrey Mumford is composer-in-residence at Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio. His two-week residency with the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra ends this Sunday with the premiere performance of Verdant and Shimmering Air: Four Views of a Reflected Forest at Uihlein Hall. He speaks with Bonnie North.

On today's Milwaukee StoryCorps segment, Harriet Herdeman of Racine shares recollections of family life in Wisconsin; she's the mother of nine. She visited the StoryCorps Outpost booth at the Milwaukee Public Library with her son, Dennis, of Muskego.

The StoryCorps Outpost booth at the Milwaukee Public Library continues taking reservations for families, friends or individuals who'd like to share their recollections. The booth is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
