India McCanse stepped down as executive director of Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Milwaukee August 31st. She plans to become a minister, and will attend theological school in Chicago. Big Brothers Big Sisters is always looking for volunteers, especially men to serve as mentors for young boys.
Carl Bogner is director of the 2007 Milwaukee LGBT Film/Video Festival, marking its 20th anniversary and getting underway tonight. The festival continues through September 16th on the UW-Milwaukee campus and at venues around town.
David Ryder, Nancy Gettelman and Fred Gettelman are board members of the Museum of Beer and Brewing, currently a web-only organization. They hope to find a building for the museum in Milwaukee. The group hosts an event honoring legendary Milwaukee brewer Fritz Gettelman tonight at the Miller Inn in the Miller Valley.
Members of the Allen Bradley Orchestra and Chorus reminisce with Lake Effect's Susan Bence. The group of employees began performing in the 1930s and continued through the 1980s. Music in the segment comes from archived recordings of the group, ending with May You Always, recorded in 1962. Members include: Eddie Deeds, Ron Hayward, Joan Konecke, Bob Kozlowski, Lee Matthews, Carrie Ulickey, Ruth Hodik Urdahl, Charlotte Villwock, JoAnne Wagner, Lenny Waraksa, and Betty Wojcieszak.
