The San Antonio Vocal Arts Ensemble performs the music of Central and South America at the time of the Spanish Conquest. With a multitude of percussion instruments, including tuned river rocks, SAVAE's performances are as much fun to watch as to hear.
Then it's two Wisconsin singer-songwriters; Green Bay's Victoria Vox and Milwaukee's melaniejane with a couple of original Christmas tunes.
Joan Parsley's Musical Offering presents classical chamber music performed as it originally was:in someone’s house. Today we hear a Mozart Flute Quartet performed in our house: studio A.
Scottish singer/songwriter Eddi Reader first became popular in the UK in the 1980’s with a band called Fairground Attraction.Since then, Reader has made a name for herself as a solo artist – often recording and touring with English singer/songwriter Boo Hewerdine. Here, they play a song Hewerdine wrote called Ontario.
Bounding Main performs sea shanties and ballads at maritime festivals, renaissance fairs and other concert venues, and they often feature the music of the Great Lakes. But this song took us back to Scotland – to a small island in the outer Hebrides called Mingulay.
Jazz pianist David Hazeltine grew up in Milwaukee, but now makes his home in NYC.Back in October, Hazeltine was back in Brookfield to perform. In a practice room at the Sharon Lynn Wilson Center for the Arts, Hazeltine played his original tune, My Idea. Milwaukee native Peter Mulvey played two songs for us – the first is Mulvey’s own tune called Shirt, which he plays with Irish slide guitarist Clive Barnes. The second is a cover of the Joanie Mitchell tune River.
Our last tune is from Milwaukee's Joe Puerta, formerly of Ambrosia and Bruce Hornsby and the Range. He performed this acoustic version of his newest holiday hit:I’m Comin’ Home for Christmas.
