Lake Effect contributor Dr. Shaili Jain is a psychiatrist with Aurora Behavioral Health Services and a professor of psychiatry at the Medical College of Wisconsin.  She wrote a book about the relationship between physicians and drug companies, and she maintains a website about doctors’ bedside manners.  She talks with Jane Hampden about burnout in the “helping professions…” doctors, nurses, teachers and social workers.

Lake Effect’s Sara Prince visits Luther Manor in Wauwatosa, where singer and “creative catalyst” Judith-Kate Friedman, the founding director of Songwriting Works™, helped seniors write a song. It’s part of a movement is called “creative aging.”  In Milwaukee, more information is available at UWM’s Center on Age and Community, the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, and the Alzheimer’s Association of Southeast Wisconsin.

John Koethe reads his poem, Chester.  Koethe was Milwaukee's first poet laureate, in 2000.  He’s published several award-winning volumes of poetry including Falling Water.  He's a distinguished professor of philosophy at UW-Milwaukee.
