Lake Effect contributor Dr. Shaili Jain is a psychiatrist with Aurora Behavioral Health Services and a professor of psychiatry at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She maintains a website about doctors’ bedside manner. Shaili Jain spoke with contributor Jane Hampden about the issues surrounding the increase of women in medicine.
Shauna Singh Baldwin’s newest book is called “We Are Not in Pakistan” – it’s a collection of stories. Baldwin lives in Milwaukee, where she and her husband own the notorious spy-themed restaurant called The Safe House.
Mexican singer Lila Downs performed earlier this year at Latino Arts on Milwaukee’s near south side. Tom May engineered her in-studio performance back in May, and she spoke with Bonnie North.
Downs performed another song for us – a cover of I Would Never Turn My Back by the Scottish group The Blue Nile. We couldn’t fit it into the interview so we’ve included it on our website.
