GLUE co-founders Abby Wilson (L) and Sarah Szurpicki, speaking in the Lake Effect studio before this weeken's conference. Sarah Szurpicki and Abby Wilson are the co-founders of GLUE - the Great Lakes Urban Exchange. Szurpicki directs the organization. They stopped by the Lake Effect studio on the eve of the conference, and Szurpicki told Mitch Teich about the love affair that drives GLUE. The second-annual conference runs through Saturday at the Intercontinental Hotel in Milwaukee.

Singer-songwriter Matt Hendricks finger-picks a blues song on his steel resonator guitar. Matt Hendricks is a blues and folk guitarist and singer-songwriter. Hendricks was recently back in town playing a gig at the Jazz Estate. Tomorrow night he's playing at Hotel Metro. He joined us for a segment of our economy series, "Tanked: Running on Empty." He tells Lake Effect’s Stephanie Lecci how he’s had to adapt to a changing economic environment.

The Amsterdam Loeki Stardust Quartet have played their recorders together for 30 years. The Amsterdam Loeki Stardust Quartet is Daniel Bruggen, Bertho Driever, Paul Leenhouts and Karel van Steenhoven. The Quartet’s Early Music Now concert is tomorrow afternoon at the Zelazo Center on the UWM campus. They performed in Lake Effect’s Studio A. Many thanks to our engineer Tom May for recording their in-studio performance for us.
