Dr. Francine Feinberg is the executive director of Meta House, a treatment center in Milwaukee for women with substance abuse problems. The center has served women in Milwaukee since 1963 – Feinberg has directed for 25 years. She was recently named to a panel that will advised the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration on the future of substance abuse treatment in women and girls.

Lauren Groff's new collection of short fiction is called Delicate Edible Birds; it's published by Hyperion Voice. Groff earned her MFA at the University of Wisconsin - several of the stories in the book were written while she lived in Madison. We spoke to her from the studios of WUFT in Gainesville, Florida. While many of the stories in her new book are set in other parts of the country, Groff says they could just as easily be set in Wisconsin, amid the elegant decline that accompanies the coldest, darkest time of the year.
