Diverting Great Lakes Water

Lake Michigan water will soon be diverted to New Berlin, under the Great Lakes Compact. Rebecca Klaper is Shaw Assistant Scientist at the Great Lakes Water Institute at UW-Milwaukee. She was named as one of Milwaukee’s emerging leaders by Milwaukee Magazine in January. She tells us that last month, state regulators approved the first practical application of the landmark Great Lakes Compact.

Michael Sears and Stanley Trollip are the authors of The Second Death of Goodluck Tinubu, published by HarperCollins. Sears lives in Johannesburg; Trollip divides his time between South Africa and Minnesota. Sears and Trollip will read from and discuss their novels Saturday morning at Mystery One Bookshop in Milwaukee and Saturday afternoon at Books & Company in Oconomowoc. They spoke with Mitch Teich from the studios of Minnesota Public Radio in St. Paul, and told him why they chose Botswana as the setting for the book.

Bret Shaw is the environmental communication specialist for the University of Wisconsin-Extension, and an assistant professor of life sciences communication at UW-Madison. He's directing a UW-Madison initiative using songs to spread the message about aquatic invasive species. He tells Mitch Teich why he thinks the songs will work in communicating the important message.
