Scott Bernstein is the President and Co-founder of the Center for Neighborhood Technology, a Chicago-based think-tank that works in the field of urban sustainability. He's also written two books on transit-oriented development. He was in Milwaukee recently to speak at a regional transit summit.


Milwaukee's Solar Coaches

Andrea Luecke is the project manager for the "Milwaukee Shines" program.  Amy Heart is director of the Milwaukee office for the Midwest Renewable Energy Association and the city's so-called Solar Coach. Both are involved in the Solar Decade Conference that runs Friday and Saturday at the Midwest Airlines Center in Milwaukee. Solar tours also run Friday and Saturday. Performing Brahms' Double Concerto

MSO concertmaster Frank Almond played his Stradivarius violin in Lake Effect's Studio A last year. He'll be performing Brahms' Double Concerto in A minor with cellist Joseph Johnson this weekend. Frank Almond is the concertmaster for the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra; Joseph Johnson is the principal cellist. They will perform Brahms’ Double Concerto in A minor for violin, cello and orchestra this Friday and Saturday evenings at Uihlein Hall.

Lake Effect contributor Nancy Camden produced our feature about Wisconsin poet Lorine Niedecker, which first aired in April for National Poetry Month. The music featured in that story was performed by pianist Jeffrey Wagner. The first annual Lorine Niedecker Wisconsin Poetry Festival is this weekend in Ft. Atkinson.
