National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences Director Linda Birnbaum explains how the air we breathe, the chemicals we're exposed to and even global warming really does impact our health. Linda Birnbaum is the Director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, one of the institutes that comprise the National Institutes of Health. Before her appointment in January, Birnbaum served as director of the Experimental Toxicology Program at the Environmental Protection Agency. NIEHS and Children's Environmental Health Sciences Core Center held a town hall meeting in Milwaukee this week. Nearly 40 investigators from UW-Milwaukee, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and the Medical College of Wisconsin conduct research related to the Core Center's work.

Jerry Poling is the Assistant City Editor of the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram. He's author of the book A Summer Up North: Henry Aaron and the Legend of Eau Claire Baseball, about Hank Aaron's year playing minor league baseball in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, published by The University of Wisconsin Press.  He spoke with Mitch Teich from Eau Claire in June.

Hank Aaron's last game in the major leagues was 33 years ago tomorrow - he batted clean-up for the Brewers, and had one hit in three at-bats, with a run batted in. But the Brewers still lost, 5-to-2.

Lake Effect essayist Eric Hansen is a Milwaukee writer and outdoorsman who frequently explores the upper Great Lakes and the American West. He writes for Backpacker Magazine and other publications, and has written two guidebooks: Hiking Wisconsin and Hiking Michigan's Upper Peninsula - A Guide to the Greatest Hiking Adventures in the U.P. The annual lunar phase known as the Harvest Moon occurs this Sunday.
