Insiders' Perspectives of Child Welfare System
The child welfare system in Milwaukee County has come under heavy scrutiny because of several children who were abused or even killed after being placed in foster care. We asked those who work within the system what they think of it and what challenges it faces.
Prostitution in Milwaukee
Milwaukee learned in 2009, that it's likely a serial killer targeted prostitutes on the north side. WUWM met with a team that reaches out to people prostituting themselves, in hopes they'll eventually seek help. We met people still doing business on the street despite its dangers, and a few who have crawled out of prostitution.
Keeping an Eye on Chicago's Water System
Scientists have cast a keen and concerned eye on Chicago's water system that handles both the city's sewage and its ship traffic. The connecting rivers and canals allow passage from Lake Michigan to the Mississippi River, but can also allow invasive species to make their way between the two. There is special concern these days about the ravenous Asian carp perhaps hopping into the lake. WUWM Environmental Reporter Susan Bence toured the system.
