There was a two-hour debate at the UW Madison Business School today, between the men who advise the presidential candidates on economic matters. Ike Brannon serves as adviser to Republican contender John McCain. Brannon says McCain's plan to have taxpayers buy up to $70,000 per bad mortgage and then restructure the loan, is the best immediate solution to the nation's financial crisis. Austan Goolsbee, who advises Democratic candidate Barack Obama, says the McCain plan would in some cases, reward irresponsible lenders who committed fraud.
