Researcher says, "New Work Programs Must Include Minorities and Women'

Governor Jim Doyle has authorized the use of $300 million in federal stimulus money for road repair and other projects. He hopes they create scores of jobs for people who have lost theirs in the recession.

Back in the 1930’s, during the Great Depression, the Roosevelt administration crafted jobs programs including the WPA and the CCC that employed millions.

This morning, in the finale of our series examining the impact those programs had here, we explore what challenges then, may arise again today. Lois Quinn is a researcher with the UWM Employment and Training Institute. She says one similarity, is that the groups today’s recession is hitting hardest, are the same as 80 years ago.
