As of noon Friday, October 9, Wisconsin will no longer enroll additional people in the state's BadgerCare Plus Core Plan. Instead, they'll be placed on a waiting list.
The state-run health care program began accepting applications in mid-June to serve low income adults who do not have dependent children.
Governor Doyle announced today that 60,000 people have already applied, but there's only enough money budgeted to cover 54,000 adults. He says everyone who applies by noon Friday, will still be accepted.
As for people who wind up on the waiting list, Doyle says the Department of Health Services will design a new program soon to provide them with at least a minimal level of health coverage, with enrollees paying the premium.
