More than 200 business, civic and academic leaders gathered today to talk about Milwaukee’s prospects of becoming a “water industry hub.”
Governor Doyle addressed the group at Marquette University.
“At a time when states are struggling to meet basic needs, the question is do we continue to move forward or do we draw back into a shell and hope that the economic climate changes down the road, and then begin to make the investments. Let me tell you, I think that is critical that we continue to push forward. If we truly want to be known as a world water hub, we must be willing to make these investments in our future,” Doyle says.
Doyle says the most important thing state government can do is to invest in education to create the next generation of water technology experts.
Later this month, the governor will travel to Isreal to address an international water technology conference.
He says it’s an opportunity to showcase Wisconsin’s leadership in water-related industries and research.
