Wisconsin labor relations officials voted Monday to move ahead with re-certification elections for school district worker unions, in light of a state Supreme Court ruling. 

Gov. Scott Walker's collective bargaining restrictions require public employee unions to hold annual elections to see if members want the organizations to continue representing them in wage negotiations.

During many state elections in Wisconsin, voters may have considered the race for Attorney General a yawner. But in recent times, it seems to have become a more coveted position.

First District Congressman Paul Ryan will face one of two Democrats vying for his seat next year as the Republican seeks election to a ninth term in Congress.

Rob Zerban of Kenosha, will square off in the Democratic primary against Amar Kaleka, a Milwaukee native and son of the slain leader of the Oak Creek Sikh temple.

It seems women candidates and women’s issues may play prominently in Wisconsin’s 2014 elections. Two are interested in running for governor, and at least one national group – Emily’s List plans to be involved. Among the legislation that’s been generating strong reaction in Wisconsin are items concerning abortion and contraception. And two new PACS - political action committees recently formed to kick-up more interest here among female candidates and voters.

Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne announced Thursday that he’ll seek the Democratic nomination for attorney general.

If the race for Wisconsin governor happened now instead of next fall, it could be a toss-up.

Poll gives Gov. Walker a 47-45 percent edge over Democrat Mary Burke, a 47-44 percent edge over Dem. Sen. Kathleen Vinehout, about a year before the 2014 vote.

While Republican activists fan out to register voters, Democratic women have formed a new PAC. Both camps know they have about one year to prevail.

Milwaukee state Representative Jon Richards is the first Democrat to announce his candidacy in the 2014 state Attorney General's race.

Two people considering a run are Amar Kaleka and Rob Zerban. Republican Congressman Paul Ryan is expected to run for reelection next year.

Governor Walker now has a declared opponent in seeking another term. Mary Burke threw her hat into the ring Monday.

Van Hollen will not Seek a Third Term

Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen says he will not run for re-election in 2014. He initially won the office in 2006 and was re-elected in 2010.

Former state commerce secretary and Trek executive Mary Burke is seeking the Democratic nomination for governor.
