Ex Fabula: Game On!

Art Montes
Andrew Larsen sharing a story.

Hello August! Can you believe it? Only one month until our first Ex Fabula Story Slam of Season Seven. That’s right, this year we’ve added a seventh StorySlam in September. Lucky Number 7 indeed!

If you missed it, we had an extraordinary special storytelling event on July 27th. In honor of the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Ex Fabula teamed up with Broadscope Disability Services for an entertaining and educational event, Easy Access. People with various disabilities, throughout Greater Milwaukee, took to the mic to share the challenges and triumphs of life with a disability and the impact of the ADA. We want to thank everyone who attended and spoke at the event.

Katy Richter sharing her Scrabble story.

Did you know that this week is National Scrabble Week? Yep, it’s a thing. And we have just the story for it. March of 2012, Katy Richter took the Ex Fabula stage to share her experience in the hardcore world of words. After hearing a WUWM story about the underground world of Scrabble competition, Katy was intrigued. As a Scrabble enthusiast, she thought she’d give it a try and maybe leave with the secret Scrabble word sheet. Walking into her first competition, she had no idea how intense Scrabble can get.

Speaking of games, Andrew Larsen took the stage for our 2012 December Spectacular to make a serious admission. He… is a life-long gamer. From supernatural to wizardry to super heros to, of course, Dungeons and Dragons, Andrew played it. While it’s not as audacious as traversing into the underbelly of Scrabble competition, Andrew relives a story and an adventure of his own.

Have you stopped by #TheSpot on 4th for Ex Fabula/Milwaukee Public Museum’s pop up Ultra Shorts events in honor of the MPM’s Maurice Sendak: 50 Years, 50 Works, 50 Reasons exhibit (running now through August 23rd)? Ex Fabula will be at Milwaukee Night Market from 6 - 9 p.m. on August 19th, so you have one more chance to share that story of that wild adventure you once had.
