Call it a skills gap – or an employment gap – or even a training gap. The reality is there are thousands of unemployed Milwaukeeans, many of them in the central city. For whatever reason, they’re not connecting with the existing unfilled jobs available.
Solving the job crisis is going to require people form divergent groups to come together and agree on some concrete solutions. A Milwaukee group, the Urban Economic Development Association or UEDA, hopes to jump start that process when it holds a community summit on the employment and skills gap next week.
Bill Johnson is the executive director of UEDA. He joined Bonnie North in the studio and says that there have been a number of studies released in the past few months that address the issues relating to employment in southeastern Wisconsin.
