Caterpillar and Local 1343 Reach Tentative Contract

Union leaders representing 800 workers at Caterpillar's South Milwaukee plant and company negotiators have agreed on a tentative labor contract. Union members will vote on it June 11.

Local 1343 of the United Steelworkers rejected the last tentative agreement. It reportedly included a six-year wage freeze for current workers and higher benefit costs and a cap on temporary layoffs. The company has cited fluctuating worldwide demand for the mining equipment it produces.

Union reps will brief rank-and-file members on the proposed deal, June 9.
