The UW Board of Regents will freeze tuition for all students, not just resident undergrads.
The new state budget mandated a two-year tuition freeze for Wisconsin students pursuing bachelor's degrees at the UW System campuses. However, the regents voted Thursday to extend the freeze to out-of-state students and to graduate students.
Initially, the board wanted to boost tuition by two-percent in each of the next two school years, but state leaders required a freeze after learning the UW System has $650 million in unspent funding. System leaders say much of the money is earmarked for upcoming projects and to provide a safety net.
