Unpacking The Plethora Of Political Parties In Wisconsin

Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders officially threw his hat into the ring this week, announcing he’s again running for president. That brings the number of people who have announced their candidacies to 12, with several more people reportedly close to making an announcement — and that’s just people seeking the Democratic nomination in 2020.

There will also be some key local races on the ballot in 2020, including the Milwaukee mayoral race. That and many other local races are officially nonpartisan elections. And while candidates often skew along partisan lines, there are an increasing number of political parties that have started up to endorse candidates and wield political influence.
