Gathering Place Brewing Celebrates The Craft Of Lager Beers

The Lager & Friends festival will be held Saturday, March 30, at Turner Hall Ballroom.

Pabst Blue Ribbon, Miller High Life and Blatz beers are an integral part of Milwaukee history. And beyond their place of origin, they have another thing in common: each beer is a lager. Milwaukee is a city built on lagers, so it may come as no surprise that a festival this weekend is honoring that legacy through modern lagers.

Joe Yeado is the organizer of the Lager & Friends festival, which will be held Saturday, March 30, from 12-4 p.m. at Turner Hall Ballroom. He is also the founder and president of the Milwaukee-based Gathering Place Brewing, which takes pride in its own lagers.

Yeado explains his own love of lagers and why he wanted to celebrate them with this festival: "Because many of them tend to be lower alcohol content, they're really beers for social settings, beers to gather around and that's really what we wanted from our brewery," he says.

Joy is a WUWM host and producer for Lake Effect.
