Wisconsin Sen. Tammy Baldwin wants to put more resources toward cutting edge scientific and biomedical research.

Wisconsin U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin says the federal government should be spending more money on scientific and biomedical research.

So, recently, she helped introduce a bill called the "American Cures Act". It would annually increase spending by at least 5% at the: National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Department of Defense Health Program, and Veterans Medical and Prosthetics Research Program.

Baldwin is also co-sponsoring a similar bill called the "American Innovation Act" that would provide an annual 5% budget increases to the: National Science Foundation, Department of Energy Office of Science, Department of Defense Science and Technology Programs, National Institute of Standards and Technology Scientific and Technical Research, and National Aeronautics and Space Administration Science Directorate.

The Democratic lawmaker told WUWM Innovation Reporter Chuck Quirmbach that she has a longtime interest in science:

Support is provided by Dr. Lawrence and Mrs. Hannah Goodman for Innovation reporting.
