Twenty Wisconsin counties are using Ohio as a model as they seek federal health care funding. The advocacy group, Citizen Action of Wisconsin wants 20 counties in the state to negotiate directly with the federal government for low income health care dollars. Governor Scott Walker rejected an expansion of federal Medicaid coverage in the state. His action was upheld by the Republican controlled state legislature. Walker's plan rejected $12 billion in federal money over 10 years and instead would increase the number of Badgercare recipients and tighten income restrictions for others. Robert Kraig of Citizen Action says his group wants the state to follow Ohio's example and is asking state health secretary Kitty Rhoades to give the counties access to the Medicaid funds.
