Assembly Approves Mental Health Medicaid Expansion
Several mental health related bills are on their way to the state Senate after winning passage in the Assembly.Wisconsin's Assembly passed three bills Tuesday that expand mental health services paid for by Medicaid. One measure provides coverage for in-home mental health treatment for emotionally disturbed children.
Another bill would create grants for police and prison guards to form mental health intervention teams. Police and correctional officer crisis teams would receive special training on how to deal with mentally ill people or inmates.
And, Representatives approved a measure that would create grants to encourage doctors and psychiatrists to practice in underserved areas.
The measures now move to the state Senate.
