Wisconsin Abortion Law Remains Blocked

The law would require abortion providers to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals.

A federal appeals court on Friday agreed with U.S. District Judge William Conley, that the Wisconsin law should remain blocked while the courts determine its constitutionality.

The organizations Planned Parenthood and Affiliated Medical Services took the law to court, claiming it would force them to close clinics in Appleton and Milwaukee and infringe on women's right to abortion.

Supporters of the law insist it will protect women's health and safety, in case an abortion goes wrong.

Wisconsin state attorneys had appealed Conley's preliminary injunction blocking the law, but the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago ruled unanimously that his order should remain in effect.
