The series applies a public health lens to each story to help listeners understand the full scope of the problem: who are the victims and the shooters; how are the weapons obtained; and what can we change about the environment that contributes to violence in Milwaukee?

As Milwaukee mourns ten individuals lost to gun violence in seven days, family members Shateria and Dearia Wiley, Nasiera Cloyd and Timasia Mack describe the scene on Lake Drive on July 3 during the fireworks where 14 year old Tariq Abkar was shot and killed.

Precious Lives producer Emily Forman talked to the girls about how they reacted to hearing the gunshots, and about finding refuge in the few places in Milwaukee they feel safe.
