Justice Rebecca Bradley and Appeals Court Judge JoAnne Kloppenburg will face off for a 10-year term on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, April 5. They were the top two vote getters in Tuesday's Primary. Bradley collected 45% of the vote to Kloppenburg's 43%. In third place was Joe Donald with 12%.
In a statement following her top finish Tuesday, Bradley said in part: "As we head into the general election, I am excited to continue highlighting my judicial philosophy and breadth of experience, from private practice to the circuit court, the appellate court, and the Supreme Court, to the people of Wisconsin."
Kloppenburg told the crowd at her Primary night party to get ready for the ride. "This election is about the future of our Supreme Court."
Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Joe Donald, who finished third, congratulated the two winners and mentioned challenges he hopes they face. "The influence of partisan politics and special interest money has a terrible impact on the Wisconsin Supreme Court and our entire judicial system."
"It is also time for the citizens of Wisconsin and our elected leaders to seriously address the issue of mass incarceration. Our criminal justice system is not working for all citizens – especially people of color," Donald said.
