There was good news and bad news in the global fight against Ebola yesterday.

The good news was that the number of new Ebola patients in West Africa continues to drop steadily.  The bad news is that it has dropped far enough that researchers have suspended human tests of a new drug to fight the deadly disease, for lack of study subjects.

Ebola was a public health crisis in Africa – and around the world – last year as it killed more than 9,000 people. It attracted the money and attention of many relief organizations, including the group, Catholic Relief Services.

CEO Carolyn Woo was in Milwaukee this week to speak at Marquette University as a part of their Mission Week, where she sat down with Lake Effect's Mitch Teich to talk about the issues the group faces.

"The key really is that we need to be a lot more alert, we need to be able to project scenarios, even though those scenarios may not happen," Woo said. "And then to have enough alert, to let people know that right now these are the three questions you better ask, and if you find these answers, refer it so you have a central place."
